Photo Browser

There are lots of photo viewers and editors out there - some of them even free. So what was the reason for me to create another one?

Like many people, I also do a lot of digital photography and I wasn't able to find a single photo viewer / browser I was really satisfied with. Most programs I used or tested were either too complicated or just plain ugly in their user interface (some even seem to come from an ancient time, like the 90s). None of them made use of the two-screen environment many users have nowadays - they all tried to integrate the preview into the main window or even allowed previewing only after selecting an image, not simultanously.

This program is created the way I always wanted it for myself: you can quickly index and view large image collections with a resizable thumbnail view and pick one of them for large view in a separate, resizeble viewer window. But wait - there's a lot more: you can select a beautiful magnifier glass with changable magnification rate (drag mouse wheel) to see details of your image in the preview window at the best available detail level, independently from the size of the preview window! You also can apply basic image editing operations like cropping, resizing, tilting, brightness, contrast and more; intuitively and with minimal time investment. There is also an integrated slideshow viewer with a large collection of beautiful transition effects and other tools.
Give Photo Browser a try and have fun!

Main Features
  • Two-Window (resizable) interface: one window to browse your files, another window for the preview or slideshow
  • Two alternative viewing modes: fit-to-window (resizable window) or original size, with zoom factor (10..200%)
  • High quality, fast thumbnail generation (bicubic resizing with sharpener filter is applied), even for > 10 Megapixel photos
  • Magnifier glass with changeable magnification factor (drag mouse wheel to zoom in or out)
  • Slideshow feature with 22 transition effects (3D transitions included: page flipping and rotating cube)
  • Lossless rotation, EXIF support, crop / resize / tilt and simple but powerful image editor
  • Batch processing with watermark/stamping tool, resizing and renaming; export to PDF / print of "contact sheets"
  • Works great, even with huge image sizes (like those 4600x3500 pixel images from 16 Megapixel cameras)!
  • Supported image formats: JPG/JPEG (with EXIF info), JP2 (JPG 2000), PNG, GIF, BMP, TIF/TIFF, TGA, PCX, ICO
  • ...and the common RAW formats DNG, CRW, CR2, RAW, NEF, PEF, RAF, SRF, SR2, ARW

  • Tilting (+/-30°)
  • Adjust Brightness...
  • Contrast
  • Gamma
  • Color Saturation
  • Sharpener Filter
  • Convert to Grayscale
  • The editor allows you to see the complete (resized) image or the original size (with panning) and to reset all filters (also temporarily while clicking the preview, to compare with original)
  • You always save a copy of the original image (with selectable JPEG compression, up to 100% quality) by default, to keep your originals untouched, but you are also able to overwrite the originals if you choose
  • Runs on Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • Check out the fully functional Trial Version for 15 days - and if you like it, buy a key! One license is valid for up to two computers you are using. Free updates for life! It's made in Germany

» Version History
  • 2.38 - Photo Browser is now compatible with Windows 8
  • 2.37 - Fixed 1:1 (show original size) function in the filter section (Edit dialog)
  • 2.36 - Fixed batch processing module (stamp position, resizing when using EXIF rotation)
  • 2.33 - 2.35 - Fixed some more memory leaks
  • 2.32 - Fixed batch processing function: very large image files caused an out-of-memory exception (so only the first files of a batch were processed) on resizing. Added a new option "Portrait Format same Height as Landscape Format", which makes portrait fotos the same height as landscape fotos of the same size. Longer side can now be up to 2000 pixels.
  • 2.31 - Fixed printing function. JPG quality settings (50..100%) are now adjustable in smaller steps as well as saved and restored. Some minor adjustments and improvements.
  • 2.3 - Photo Browser now supports virtually all RAW image formats as well as JP2 (JPG 2000), TIF/TIFF, TGA, PCX, ICO.
  • 2.2 - Added a simple full-page printing function for the current image. The printer and the orientation (portrait / landscape) can be selected in the upcoming dialog.
  • 2.1 - Animated GIFs can now be displayed in the new view mode (the zoom factor is set to original size). Redesigned the new view mode window; several improvements and bug fixes.
  • 2.0 - Major update: added a "View Mode" menu item, to switch from fit-to-window mode to original size mode. In the new original size mode the user can select the zoom factor (10-200%) and use scrollbars in a larger-than-window image.
  • 1.0 - First release
